The NCA’s mission statement is three-fold:

  1. To educate all composers, professional, amateur, or student, on a continuing basis by providing lectures, seminars, and workshops associated with every level of instrumental composition.
  2. To provide opportunities for composers to have their music heard in the Nashville-middle Tennessee area as well as nationally and internationally.
  3. To provide composers, professional, amateur, or student, with opportunities to meet and network with other composers in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere.

The NCA was formed under this premise: original music thrives in a community that gives it a chance to be heard. In today’s highly competitive marketplace, a composer whose works are performed in many places and media, has a greater chance to garner work than a composer whose work is hidden away from the general public. It is the goal of the NCA to benefit the Nashville-middle Tennessee community by offering it chances to hear and meet its local composers. And by so doing, it gives both communities a chance to win: composers have their music heard, and the community hears new music that is locally grown. It is also the desire of the NCA to enhance Nashville-middle Tennessee composers’ reputation nationally and internationally.

Future endeavors include regular NCA sponsored recitals and concerts, a partnership with a record label to record and distribute music written by local composers, representation of local composers to film and television production companies, a film scoring workshop, and a distinguished composer lecture series.
